Over the course of the week, there have already been many memorable moments that I would love to reflect on within this platform. The first memorable moment I would like to reflect on was the very first meeting I had the Monday morning that started senior project. Mel and I met in the dining hall and quickly started analyzing final projects, looking for any possible way to better them and make them more "end of year friendly". Mel's willingness to adapt her projects and hear my perspective and then to implement it into her curriculum was fascinating. This reminded me that teaching at Proctor is different from most in the sense that teachers don't roll out the same assignments and class plans year after year, boring themselves and students to death. The flexibility allowed by administrators allows teachers to continue to better their teaching and keep it fresh for themselves and their students. Because of this Mel and I were able to change the banned book project in athletes in lit from a 2 page paper to an infographic that we plan to put up in the local book store where we bought the books. This is a project that students are more likely to take pride in and the idea that we are giving back to the local economy is amazing. Another notable moment was the first culture and conflict class I sat in which was around one single table in the dining hall, giving me deja vu of last year's classes. It was great to be back in C&C as I was reminded of its second gear of thinking and how well the class flows with conversation, nobody shying away from sharing their opinion. I was shocked by how close knit the remainder of the class seemed and even fellow dorm-mate Aidan Botti said that the class was a very tight bunch. Overall this week was an incredible insight into the interworks of Proctor and inspired me as I feel as though I’m more prideful in aiding Mel than I would be doing work in class.
